About Arius

As early as I can remember when I was little, I felt the need to prove myself and my worth. I would discover many lives as I developed, in pursuit of my own “worth” through external needs. But no matter how much I would “accomplish,” nothing ever seemed to be enough. Be it academically, to winning chess tournaments, spelling bees, and mathlete competitions, to athletics competing in soccer and basketball at a collegiate level. After high school, I graduated from Florida State University with dual-degree of a BS in Applied Mathematics, and a BA in Studio Art. In an unconscious effort to get away from the life I was told to live – after I graduated I would end up pursuing basketball as a career.

I would end up playing semi-professional basketball in Spain  for a year, where I got to immerse, work, and learn from the best trainers and athletes of the world. After my brief stint playing basketball in Spain for a season, the life I attempted to avoid would come roaring back. I went on to receive my MBA at EA University in Madrid and work in technology innovation in Silicon Valley, California for 5 years thereafter. The job there had given me every reason to be happy: incredible pay, flexible schedule, benefits, creative freedom, and getting to travel the world… but slowly I began to realize that the values of business and where I was headed did not align with my authentic self.

After my project closed, I would take a leap of faith and move to Portland with the hopes of finding an athletic coaching job for a youth program. Of course, it was the private arts school with no athletics program that got back to me… and where I still teach full-time. All along what I had been seeking was a role to help, heal, guide, and lead others any way I could, while living a wholistic and fulfilled life from an empowered self of forever-learning, with the freedom to create my own path in whatever direction it may take me. As a teacher and coach, have found that calling.

As such, my guidance is led from my experience with empathy and compassion, from a place that mistakes should be embraced, not avoided, and where real choice means the freedom and empowerment to every path is unique and your path is your own – without any needs to fill but those authentic to you and your self.
